We at cultured. are committed to bringing you cheeses you can’t easily find, or taste, elsewhere. We celebrate the artisan and farmstead cheesemakers of New Zealand, who are creating exceptional textures and flavours from New Zealand’s lovely milk – cow, goat, sheep and buffalo.
Our love of cheese
Wendy and Conrad developed cultured from their love of cheese, coffee and related things. Wendy worked in cafes while at school and university, then lived in New York in her early twenties, where delightful delis abounded. After six months around the markets of Europe with their children, tasting many delicious cheeses, Conrad and wendy gave up their day jobs and returned to their coffee cart at the markets in Lower Hutt and Wellington frustrated by the lack of artisan cheese available to market-goers.
A few months and much research and planning later, Wendy went on a week long artisan cheesemaking course at the New Zealand Cheese School , went back to learn about cellaring and judging cheese and became very excited about bringing delicious speciality cheeses to more people.
They have met each of their cheesemakers and are in awe of the quality of the products they offer. In particular they champion Over the Moon Dairy in Putaruru (our unofficial mentors), Kingsmeade Cheese in Masterton, Zany Zeus in Moera and Clevedon Buffalo Company in Clevedon. cultured carries their delicious products as the base range, with other delights from all over the country depending on what's great at any time.
